We traveled to the Monarch Campsite in Yoho on Thursday night before the long weekend. It was quiet and beautiful there. On the second day, we met up with Anthony (our old Aleydabeth crew member and good friend). We spent a sun drenched day at Emerald Lake in Yoho, Lyle hiking with AJ, and me hiking around the lake and kayaking. We shared fellowship, and food and made sailing plans. Anthony will join us in November on Aleydabeth. Hurrah!
On Saturday we awoke to rain, buckets of it! We drove to the Lake O'Hara pick up site, parked the RV and met Kevin and Michelle for the bus ride up. It wasn't raining up top.....it was snowing! As Kevin said, however, the snow added beautiful definition to the peaks around us. He is an optimist I think!
We spent a quiet first day, just did a small hike around the lake, then hiked to Lake Oesa on the second day. We had snow and sleet in the night and it was cold! But the morning dawned as a great hiking day and we enjoyed our trek. Lake O'Hara is one of my favorite places. It is spectacular in its awesome splendor. They limit the amount of visitors to the area and this keeps it very special. It had been 14 years since we had been there, and I am so glad that I returned. I love the Rocky Mountains!
